Entered service with Trinity House on 3rd July 1905. Served at Blackwall until 1907 when he became assistant L/H keeper at Bardsey Lighthouse. He then went on to serve at Lizard Lighthouse 1910, Beachy Head Lighthouse 1913 and at St. Catherine's Lighthouse in 1917. In 1929 he served at the Nab Tower Lighthouse until 1933 when he briefly served as a Principal Keeper at Longships Lighthouse and then ( at the same rank) at Beachy Head Lighthouse.
