Golf Professional & Club Maker

Newbery's 1905 invention was clearly an idea ahead of its time, judged by the small number of "half moons" irons that remain in existence today. From the Isle of Wight, Newbery began caddying at age 10 and learned clubmaking at the Needles Club. In 1902 he became the pro at Strawberry Hill Golf Club and worked at other courses until at least 1927. (Jackson 1994, 6) with excellent reviews. "Without exception, his patrons speak in glowing terms of his qualities as a man and a teacher of golf".
(Golfing, July 4, 1907: 30).
